Prugio Apartment Design & Master Planning

Prugio Apartment Design & Master Planning  2019

It was the total design and mater planning for all elements for Prugio such as exterior, interior, facilities, environment, landscaping, stores, community facilities, signs, public furniture and electrical installations. Under the design concept "Black is the new Green," the objects were designed with the elements including “contrast, circle, overlapping, material and color” from the nature. We also had the architect consultant with Yung A Kim Architect.
Overlapping and repetition created depth of the buildings. The lines of tall and straight trees and overlapping feelings of the trees consisted of a rhythmic and lively silhouette of the apartments. We intended a more comfortable and lively architecture in harmony between the residents and their surroundings.
Named "Greenery Lounge" a compound word of greenery and lounge, the community facility where residents gather was established with the concept of a leisurely space for families and neighbors beyond a simple convenience facility. A variety of subsidiary facilities were put together and landscaping was designed around the community facility to amplify the synergy. Beyond the landscaping to view, the landscaping to experience was designed to contain cultural contents.

The stores built to enhance the value of the complex have each concept and atmosphere. The not-monotonous and repetitive structure of the shopping area allows residents to feel a rhythmic sense while walking. Through the wide glass windows and frames, you can enjoy the landscape of Prugio like a picture, and the "courtyard" with diverse plants at the center of the shopping district plays a role as a resting place to coordinate space and atmosphere.
“Greenery Studio” is an educational space for Prugio residents. It is a new type of space for education and culture while enjoying your leisure time.

Process

We tried to make structural changes to verify that an apartment can be a beautiful building, escaping away from fragmentary changes that used only colors in flat structures. Various attempts were made to get out of the simple flat structure by emphasizing the rooftops or twisting the windows, adding three-dimensional surfaces to the façade.

In order to capture the nature-motivated heritage of Prugio, the linear elements of dense forests and overlapping of trees were interpreted as formative elements, and the overall structure was designed using overlapped surfaces and solids, not just the façade of an apartment.

To minimize a monotonous feeling from the several buildings placed together, the neighboring building shave different colors and surface layouts so that the whole complex becomes harmonized. Through scalemockups and digital imaging, we designed by imaging the finished apartment unit and apartment complex.

The community facility was designed in one place according to the moving lines and convenience of residents. A wide open area was created for pop-up events and activities. The facility was also designed to create an environment that can well coexist with nature and allow residents to take a rest in the complex.
